Why You Need An Entertainment Specialist

Before hiring us, almost all of our clients ask us the same three questions:

  1. Can’t we get the same type of DJ for much less on Craigslist or by letting a family friend handle the entertainment?

  2. How is Midwest Sound any different than all of the other “wedding companies” in the area?

  3. Is it true that "you get what you pay for"?

The Short Answer To These Is That...

  1. No, you can’t get the same type of reception quality and reliability via family friends or Craigslist, and...

  2. We are a company that specializes in entertainment, while many other companies treat entertainment as just one small part of their operation, and...

  3. Generally, yes...but only to a point.

How Our DJs are Different Than Craigslist Performers Or A Family Friend With A PA System

The rapid evolution of the internet has led to a marketplace where it is easy to find any product or service online. But finding a service is just part of the equation. You also need to assess the credibility of the service, and compare it to competing services to ensure that you are getting the best value for your money.

What does this mean for you when you are looking for wedding entertainment? It means that you need to be careful, and you need to fully understand that there is a difference between paying the lowest price and receiving the greatest value.

Take Craigslist DJs for example. It is easy for anyone to sell their services on Craigslist, and many people who have bought a cheap PA system from an online retailer advertise their “DJ services” at rock bottom prices. While hiring these individuals does not cost much, there is a tradeoff.
These individuals often lack experience, quality equipment, and, most importantly, reliability. If they are sick, you don’t have an entertainer for your wedding. If their equipment malfunctions, you don’t have a sound system. To top it all off, there is no guarantee that a budget DJ will be able to connect with your crowd and custom-tailor your event in a way that makes it memorable.

All of these same reasons apply to family friends as well. All-too-often, we hear horror stories of wedding receptions that were derailed because the couple chose to ask a family friend who has a “nice PA system” and “DJs as a hobby” to handle their entertainment. There is no comparison between a “nice PA system” and our state-of-the-art equipment, and there is no way that you should trust one of the most important events of your life to anyone other than an experienced DJ and a reliable entertainment company.

How Are We Different Than Other Wedding Companies?

Quite simply, entertainment is all we do. While many companies are one-stop shops, the convenience factor of such a company is outweighed by the fact that entertainment only gets a fraction of their attention. While they are busy managing photographers and videographers (and who knows what else!)--and still attempting to schedule a DJ for your event--we are focused on one thing at all times – entertainment.

This concentrated approach ensures that you get more than just someone to play music at your reception; it means that you get an experienced entertainer who will work with you to customize your event, and who knows how to take the pulse of the crowd and make sure that all of your guests have the best time possible. It also means that you get an added layer of reliability.  In the unlikely event that one of our DJs would be unavailable or our equipment would malfunction, we have DJs of equal experience and additional sets of state-of-the-art equipment on standby. You will never have to worry that we are preoccupied with other elements of your event, or that we won’t show up at all. Entertainment is all we do, and we have never missed an event – ever.

SO YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, RIGHT?

We've always been told that, haven't we?  It's true to a certain extent.  If you're looking for an experienced professional DJ company to help you entertain your guests at your event, it's completely reasonable to be alarmed at quotes that hover in the $200-$400 range.  Even worse, if you receive a quote in which the accepted payment methods include alcoholic beverages, that should be a big red flag!

On the other end of the spectrum, there are companies that insist on charging ridiculous amounts of money...and all too often, this is a result of overinflated ego and nothing more.  The DJ who positions himself as the "elite" entertainer will usually ignore reality and charge far more than what is justified for their services.  So hiring the most expensive DJ means you're simply paying more for the added ego.  That same ego-centric way of thinking that will more than likely lead your "elite" DJ to disregard your thoughts, ideas and wishes for the content, structure and style of the entertainment...and do what he or she thinks is best.

We are an entertainment SERVICE.  We don't lose sight of that.  And we aim to provide that service at prices that are the best value for our clients.
